T.I reigns at the top this week with his new album, "no mercy", although it has the lowest first weeks sales from the last three t.i albums, which where all in the range of 450-550k. His latest effort sold 159,000 copies after 7 days in stores. I had been watching T.I since Urban Legend, and i saw how he kept improving, and he would have kept the consistency, if not for all the recent troubles he has been getting himself into. He just went back to jail a couple of months ago, after just getting out early this year.
Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday is next up, and she sold 82,000 copies this week, bringing her total sales to 561k. She has gone Gold after just three weeks in store, i think that is good for her. Now, let us see if she can go platinum. I think if she drops more pop songs off the album, or promote more controversy, then she would go platinum; because, right now, it takes more than skills to sell records.
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the new one from Kanye West, sold 67,000 copies this week. The album is now at a total of 672,000 copies sold so far in 3 weeks.
Rap veteran, REDMAN's "redman presents...reggie" sold 10,000 copies. That is pretty low, considering the fact that he went out of his way to try and sell records. He went the auto-tune way and did a lot of "sing-song" rap on the album; not what we redman fans are used too, i guess he wanted to experiment.
Soulja Boy's "The DeAndre Way" sold 8,000 copies this week, and that brings the total to 21,000 copies in 2 weeks. Rick Ross sold the the same thing this week as Soulja Boy, and his album has been out for months now. Teflon Don sold 8,000 copies this week, which brings the total to 507,000 copies over all.
The Hunger For More2 album by Lloyd Banks sold 7,200 copies this week, which brings his total to 63,000 copies after 3 weeks. And Slim Thug's THA THUG SHOW album sold 5,900 copies, which brings his total to 20,000.
Looking at the sales breakdown above, it is clear that Gansta Rap is no longer in high demand.
