Patience (Sabali) Video, Nas & Damian Marley

Nas and Damian Marley are currently touring Africa, and i am sure that is where they shot the video for this new single off their collabo album (Distant Relatives). The new single is titled Patience, but Sabali in some African language. The track features a pair of blind singers from Mali in Africa- Amadou & Mariam. I was so happy when i found out that they had shot a video to this song, because it is one of my best tracks off the album, and it shows another side of Damian Marley that people do not know.

Damian was so politically poetic, and he was actually rapping (kind of), and he took the first two verses. I must say that he even dropped more germs than nas did. Nas came with the last verse, and his delivery was so on point....i think this song is incredible, and the fact that a lot of people are now going to witness the genius the collaboration of this two conscious artist brings about is just wonderful.

It is such a pity that they didn't get booked for no African countries. I would try out of contacts, i might just get them down to Nigeria. But, i have to say though that they have really been touring for this album. They basically toured all round the year(2010). I wish them all the best.

So, guys, what's up today? I would like to know what albums you are currently bumping daily in your cd decks. There a lot of albums out right now; nas and damian marley's  distant relatives; eminem's recovery album(although not formerly released); drakes thank me later album; plies goon-affiliated album; b.o.b's adventures of bobby ray.

Okay, let me go first; there are so many great albums out, and some times i get confused on what to listen to. I have all the albums, and i have listened to some songs off eminems album, but i have not sat down to actually listen to it from beginning to the end. But, the album I am bumping to constantly right now, is distant relatives. It doesn't really have to do with the fact that i am a nas fan, it is just that the album is great. Imagine someone preaching knowledge to you and does not bore you in the procedure, rather, he keeps you longing for more; that is what nas and damian marley pulled off with this one.

I think when i have had a fill of the album to my satisfaction, then i would move on to feel either drake or eminem's album next

rap albums on the billboard chart

Yeah, another week has gone by, and it is time for us to check out the rap albums on the billboard top 200 album charts. Unfortunately this week, there are no new rap releases, but just the same albums that have been on the chart, moving up or down.

B.o.b's the "adventures of bobby ray" is at the top of rap albums on the charts this week. He is at number 13 on the billboard top 200 albums charts, with 20,000 copies sold this week, bringing his debut solo album to a total of 210,000 copies sold so far,

The next album on the list is the duo album between reggae veteran and son of the late BOB MARLEY, "damian marley", and RAP LEGEND, NAS. Distant relatives is at number 18 this week, with 17,000 copies sold this week. In three weeks, the duo have managed to sell a cumulative total of 100,000 copies. I think the album is meant to have done more than that, but to quote one of nas's line on the album, "people don't want to hear the truth.", cos their album IS the truth. A perfect blend or rap and reggae. Just for the record, the album has sold about 250k copies worldwide.

Ludacris is up next with his highly versatile album, battle of the sexes. I have always seen ludacris as the must underrated rapper in the game; as my friend always says, luda's verses are like solar eclipse's; after he drops his verse, you must probably won't see the next rapper coming, cos luda would have stole the show. His 7th solo album did 12,000 copies this week, brining the total sales to 441,000 copies so far. He is almost GOLD, and if he does not make it to platinum, not to worry, cos two of his singles, HOW LOW, and "my chick bad", have already sold in excess of a million copies as individual records. Wow! Good for him. Battle of the sexes comes in at number 28 on this weeks' billboard top 200 album charts.

Re-entering the charts again, this week is DRAKE, the rapper with the hottest buzz right now, that seemed to be doing a lot of singing this days. His mixtape, that got him his popularity, and was later re-packed and sold as an album, SO FAR GONE, is back on the charts this week, selling 5,000 copies. Bringing the total sales for the cd to 474,000 copies sold. Not gold yet, but a lot of people are pitching him to sell in excess of a million copies in his first week in stores, with his début solo album; THANK ME LATER, which has already leaked on the internet.

THE SELF PROCLAIMED QUEEN OF THE SOUTH, TRINA, is still moving some units on the charts. Her latest work, AMAZING, is coming at number 97 this week, almost out of the top 100 albums, of the billboard charts. The album sold 4,700 copies this week, bringing the total to 59,000 copies sold so far.

REFLECTION ETERNAL'S album, "revolution per minute", sold 4,700 copies this week, bringing the total sales so far to 33k copies, As I said, the people dropping the truth are no longer selling.

The last album on the charts worth mentioning is southern rapper, GUCCI MANE'S album, "The State vs Radric Davis", which is coming in at number 162 on the charts; and selling 2,900 copies this week. This brings his total sales to 369,000 copies.

I have been hearing a lot on how GOON AFFILIATED, "Plies" new album is doing. I heard it is selling out in stores. It was released 2 days ago, the 8 of june, so get ready for a big number rap album next week.
I am pitching it to sell between 200-300 copies in its first week.

Much has been said about Nas and Damian Marley since they announced their collaborative endeavor as Distant Relatives. While much of it was praise in anticipation, expectations grew to nearly unattainable heights. Both Nas and Jr. Gong are no strangers to this - both sons of famous musicians, both with hits in their history. Each held in high regard within their respective genres, individually, they have managed to forge rich legacies in the streets, while always maintaining a message in the music. With the message behind a project like Distant Relatives - drawing strong parrells between the music of Africa, America and the Carribean, as well as the "one blood" that flows within us all, it would be easy to get too preachy, too informational. Luckily, Damian Marley's powerful production creates the perfect surface for he and Nas to educate and demonstrate their points masterfully.

Lyrically, the album boasts thought-provoking, introspective writing. Distant Relatives exemplifies the type of lyrical prowess both artists have become known for, with songs like "Welcome To Jamrock" and "If I Ruled The World" in their respective catalogs. The Realtives speak on current events (“My Generation” ), their own triumphs through troubles (“Strong Will Continue” ) and worldly issues (“Africa Must Wake Up” ) with the same amount of dexterity, deftly covering topics with skill and insight. They lend words to the power of loyalty (“Friends”), good fortune (“Count Your Blessings”) and religious beliefs (“In His Own Words”), sharing personal touches with every turn. Both take risks, and balance their master-plan, as Nas candidly forecasts the birth of his youngest child. Throughout the album, Nas and Jr. Gong ask the right questions (“Why do we all collide? Why do the young die?”) and provide just enough inspiration in the process (“Only the strong will continue, I know you have it in you”). They offer the right amount of positive influence with a balanced realism, juggling intellect with lived experience. They also manage to do something few traditionally "conscious"-labeled artists pull off; they never sound corny or contrived. Only artists of this stature could pull of this kind of undertaking. With honest emotion, intelligent bars, enjoyable melodies and fluid delivery throughout, this is a benchmark album for Damian and Nas, both as artists, but also as social poetical prophets.

The production on the album shows just how much thought was put into the project, one that also shows range. Where many have forgotten about the lost art of full length album making, this project is best served whole. Whether mixing live instrumentation with cleverly flipped samples (“The Promised Land” ) or borrowing from various cultures and genres, the beats here do not disappoint. Not often thought of as a Hip Hop producer, Bob Marley's youngest son (with some assistance from brother Stephen) assert themselves as versatile studio conductors. It’s refreshing, for instance, to hear tribal drums on “Tribal War” following the up-tempo breakbeats of “As We Enter” . All of this sets the stage for “Strong Will Continue,” which acts as one of the standouts in a heap of uniqye cuts, an anthem that blares with electric guitars, piano keys and a potent drum pattern. They can also mellow things down (“Leaders”), bringing the acoustic guitars out (“Count Your Blessings” and “In His Own Words”) and borrow from various cultures and languages, something heard on chants in “Patience” “Dispear” and “Friends.” They can go from the accessible (“My Generation”) to the gritty (“Nah Mean”) with ease and keep heads nodding throughout, without ever losing the cohesion that makes this a complete album. Like Madlib, Damian Marley has the ability to make his music sound globally relevant. The production matches the lyrical points perfectly, which may be one of the most challenging achievements on such an ambitious project.

From the moment the listener absorbs opening-cut, “As We Enter,” the chemistry is solidified within Distant Relatives as the two trade bars and this collaborative spirit can be seen throughout the album. Nas' and Damian's work together is superb and each guest (Stephen Marley, Joss Stone, Lil Wayne, Dennis Brown and two guest spots from K’naan) fits sensibly with the project's perimeters, ensuring that nothing is done for show and no detail is spared. Front to back, this album provides no filler and boasts substance. In a genre-bending effort, the duo manages to succeed in creating a best of both worlds collaboration without compromising anything - a feat rarely seen. The relativity between Nas and Marley comes across in this music as well as it does in their message, as both men create a benchmark in their rich careers.

NAS AND KELIS RELEASING ALBUMS A DAY APART.

Surprisingly, veteran rapper, NAS and his ex-wife, are dropping albums a day apart in MAY. KELIS, who has not dropped an album since her  2006 album, Kelis Was Here [Explicit], is dropping her 5th album "flesh tone" on may 17, a day before nas drops his collaborative album with DAMIAN MARLEY, "distant relatives.

Watch out for that nas and damian marley album, and go out and get it when it drops on may 18th; support HIPHOP. I have heard three tracks from it, the first single (as we enter), and two other dope tracks, and i think it would be an enlightening album, as well as a fine blend of rap and reggae.

I have to say that i saw the video to kelis's new single, "acapella", and it really beat me up to think that she and nas are seperated; they were so good together, and she is looking really fine in that video. Anyway, i feel that is what it is, and i wish them luck with handling the kid they have together.
