A LOOK AT THE BILLBOARD CHARTS.

This week is not looking so good for the rap scene; SNOOP DOGG dropped the follow up to his MALICE N WONDERLAND album, titled MORE MALICE, which is like a compilation, and not really a full length release. In it's first week, it moved 15k copies, not so solid, but something for a release that is not considered an album.

The other new album to be considred on the chart, which is on its second week in stores is LUDACRIS'S BATTLE OF THE SEXES, which has sold a total of 243k till date, and 45k this week.

Other notables on the chart are DJ KHALEED'S cd, VICTORY, which is at a total of 47k, with just 4,200 copies sold this week. You also have 50 CENT still hanging there with his 4th studio album, still on the charts. BEFORE I SELF DESTRUCT moved 3,700 copies this week with a total of 466k so far.

WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?

I wont lie, i have been out of touch for a while now, and havent loaded my ipod or phone with any new albums or songs, except the ones i listen to on radio; that is because i have been working on a book i am ghost writing for this publishing house...got to get some of that dough. I would just like to know what you guys have been listening to, and i would really appreciate comments at this time.

Anyway, i still listen to a lot of old rap albums, and i think i haven't missed much, because no rapper worth listening to has dropped an album for a couple of months now; except for probably LUDACRIS'S new one, Battle Of The Sexes [Explicit], i don't think there is any other rap album worth my time, correct me if i am wrong.

That is my opinion anyway, and i would like to get yours. I would really like to know what you are listening to right now.

DR DRE TO FEATURE JAY-Z ON DETOX'S FIRST SINGLE.

There is  news from MICHEAL YO of E! NEWS, on his twitter page that DR DRE IS TO FEATURE JAY-Z ON DETOX'S FIRST SINGLE. If you didn't know, detox is the title of the legendary west coast producer/rapper/beat maker, dr dre's 3rd album. Since after he dropped his last album, 2001, which was in 1999, his fans have been waiting endlessly for the next one.

The buzz for detox came up as far back as 2004, and it has been highly anticipated since then. I don't think any other album has been delayed the way detox has been, but people keep saying it is worth the wait. I can remember on THE GAME'S debut album, when dre had a litle cameo where he says we should watch out for detox, and that was in 2005, five years ago.

Jay and dre have worked together in the past, and there was rumor that jay ghost wrote the first single from 2001, but i am not to sure about that. Dre has done some beats for jay-z in the past, some wonderful classic beats, which would include The Watcher 2, that featured legendary rapper, rakim, and also dre himself, on jay's Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse album.

Now that they have worked together again on this unnamed song, it is sure to come out good.

SHADE ADU ADDS RAEKWON TO A LIST OF PEOPLE SHE LISTENS TO.

Raekwon Only Built For Cuban Linx Part 2 Vinyl LP Soldier of LoveI was really dazed when i read in a recent interview where SHADE ADU was asked what music she listened to presently and she mentioned raekwon's new album; ONLY BUILT FOR CUBAN LINX...PART2, in her list. I can't remember the other artist she mentioned, but i know she also said she liked some songs on RIHANNA'S new album, RATED R.

The thing that is weird here is that you would never think a lady like her would listen to hard core rap like what raekwon does; you would think she would probably be listeningto some old BOB MARLEY ALBUM, or maybe some ENYA or something. I never thought that a 50 year old woman like shade adu would be listening to the kind of music i listen to, and even admit it in public.

Raekwon himself was so surprised and shocked about it that he made a thank you song for her about a week after the remark she made. I do think rae's album ,Raekwon Only Built For Cuban Linx Part 2 Vinyl LP is a classic, and every rap fan should get it. But it did come as a shocker for me too to hear a legend, a diva like shade talk about it in an interview. I think you really have to get the album to understand what she meant.

I don't really mention any other genre artist apart from rap up in here, but i think shade can get a pass. Her album is fantastic, from start to finish. Infact, i got it because i heard the first single, Soldier of Love, on radio the same day i heard the statement she made about rae's album, so i just gave it a shot, and i didn't regret; 10 solid tracks.

WHAT'S UP WITH GAME'S R.E.D ALBUM.

I won't lie, i am a big GAME fan, and you would have noticed that from the constant update of news concerning the rapper, and i have been waiting for his album for a while now. I have even been waiting for one of his single's to catch the radio fever, but that has not happened yet.

Anyway, i caught an article on hiphopdx.com, one of my favorite hiphop websites, and i would like you guys to read it.

Game Reveals Production For R.E.D. Album
March 25, 2010 08:03:00 AM CDT | by Danielle Harling

This week, Compton rapper The Game revealed what fans can expect production-wise for his upcoming album, The R.E.D. Album. And it looks like the rapper has secured a number of high-profile producer’s for the album.

Pharrell Williams, RZA, and Cool & Dre are just a few of the producers who have lent their talents for The R.E.D. Album.

"I got this colorful movement over here where it's beautiful music on this side [with Star Trak] — then when I need to go dark or super grown and sexy, I got Dre over here,” Game told MTV. “The combination is crazy — mixed in with a Cool & Dre track and RZA track and all the shit I been doing. The only person I'm upset I didn't work with on this album is DJ Premier. I feel his shit would have been perfect for this all-star producer cast that I have. One Premier track would have did me just fine. I would have murdered that shit.”

"They got the intro to the album, which is titled ‘Infrared,’” Game explained. “All the real hip-hop fans, to hear me rap, how I'm rapping on my intro, it's gonna fuck people up. Before you get to #2, you gonna already know I'm serious.”

From all i have read so far about this album; him working with dre; working with RZA...i know this album is going to be "bananas", i just can't wait for it to drop.

WHICH RAPPER WOULD HOLD IT DOWN FOR 2010.

Which rapper do you think is going to hold it down for this year? We know JAY-Z had it on lock last year, and LIL WAYNE had the rap game in a chock-hold the better part of 2008, so who do you think is going to hold down the rap game this year?

Let me add that I have to recognise GUCCI MANE, even though I don’t really feel his style of rapping and I don’t know why he was so hot for a time. He started building steam around late last year (2009), and then he held it down through out, till earlier this year, before heading off to jail. But you still view his videos on MTV, every now, and then, and also video’s of other artist in which he was featured.
I still would like to know what got every body crazy that made them start putting him on their songs. It was like he was the new weezy.

Gucci could have had it good, he could have had a chance to reach the peak of his career if he had not gone off to jail, or rather gone back to jail for violating parole. I never get biased in any of my decisions or what I say, so if I say I am not feeling Gucci, and I still mention him, then you know I am just keeping it real. I have to admit though that there is a guest appearance I heard him on that blew me a way. His guest appearance on the YOUNG MONEY album; the track he did with lil wayne, “steady mobbing”, now, his verse on that song, I must confess, always gives me goose bumps when ever it comes on.

Enough of Gucci and off to the next one; I think T.I has a chance to hold the rap game down this year. Although it is march, and there is nothing new from him, and there was nothing new from him through out last year, because he was in jail for a year and a day, I think he has the right energy to pull off something before summer.
I have followed T.I since his inception; since when he had the beef with LIL FLIP (I have to say that I was riding with flip at first.), and I know the kind of energy the guy has when he wants to achieve something. He might not be the most lyrical, but I can say he is one of the most consistent rappers to date, along side JAY-Z. So, I feel T.I can be the hottest rapper for 2010.

Another mention would be YOUNG JEEZY. I have to tell you, I like his singles, and I like when he guest appears on other people’s songs, but I always find it hard to listen to a jeezy album from start to finish; maybe it is because his style never really changes. But he has managed to gather a lot of fans since his 2004/2005 debut, and he has promised to bring a lot to the table this year. Plus, Defjam as a recording label, have said they are all behind jeezy for his upcoming album; his 4th, so far.

I can’t but mention THE BOSS, RICK ROSS; the dude is one determined individual. He had one of the best rap albums of last year, DEEPER THAN RAP, behind Jay-z’s BLUEPRINT 3, and REAKWON’S ONLY BUILT FOR CUBAN LIINXS2. You would think the dude would relax and enjoy some royalties from the album, but nope, he is out and working, appearing hear and there to keep his name fresh in the media.
He is about to drop his 4th album, TEFLON DON, sometime in the summer, and he has guest appearance on DJ KHALEED’S VICTORY album, and has shot a video for one of the features.

The last, but not the least person on the list is none other than the Compton Top dog, THE GAME. He already has a street single, BIG MONEY, which is bumping on most people’s deck’s and has shot the video to the official first single, SHAKE, produced by COOL N DRE.
I tip my hat to game, as he managed to make it back with the master producer, Dr Dre, something that a lot of people thought was impossible, a couple of years back. I think with the guidance of the good doc, he could pull out a masterpiece with his upcoming album, R.E.D; which is his official fourth album.

Yep, those are all the rappers I give it to hold down the rap game for this year. What do you think of the list?

WHO EVER THOUGHT NAS WOULD EVER WORK WITH LIL WAYNE?

Yeah, for real, who ever thought that NAS would be working with lil wayne? They record different types of music and are not alike in any way, except for the fact that they are both rappers.

When i read, a couple of days ago, that lil wayne was a guest appearance on the collaborative effort between NAS and DAMIAN MARLEY, for their forth coming album, DISTANT RELATIVES, it shocked me. And to think that the name of the track that wayne is working with them on the album is titled "my generation",. i think it is a bit out of place.

One thing, wayne is not in their generation, plus he don't record the type of conscious music that nas and damian have been known to bring to the table.

I know for sure that it is just a record label move to boost the album sales and get popularity for the album. I just hope wayne does not spoil the feel of the album.

LUPE FIASCO THINKS IT IS UNWISE TO TRY AND GET JAY-Z TYPE FAME.

LUPE FIASCO, Chicago rapper, thinks it is unwise for any rapper to try and attain the type of fame and success that Brooklyn rapper, JAY-Z is constantly enjoying. I think i feel him on that one; it's better for any new artist to pave his own way, and try to do his own thing. The best way to get a head-way, and make it in the long run is to be unique and do your own thing.

Below is what Lupe had to say to other artist:
"Jay-Z's a personal friend of mine," Lupe said in an interview. "[He] executive-produced my first album. [My comments were] just an example using him of how people rate success. There's an idea of the status quo that every rapper wants to be Jay-Z. Nah. Every rapper does not want to be Jay-Z. Every rapper don't wanna be Kanye West. Everybody don't wanna be Lil Wayne. They wanna be who they are. ... You're a fool trying to chase that success down and manage it like that. I always look at my success as further than a dollar sign, further than record sales. ... Everybody thinks because you're black and you're from the 'hood, you wanna be Jay-Z. There's kids who wanna be astrophysicists and don't care about rap. That should be OK. You should be OK just being you, working your regular job and being happy. That's why I made that statement. I felt it need to be said." (MTV)

FABOLOUS WANTS NAS TO SHOW THE YOUNG RAPPERS THAT HE IS THE MAN.

I just read the heading off sohh.com were fab talks about wanting nas to show the younger generation of rappers that he(nas) is the man. I think i was really surprised to read that, cos i have always taking fab is a JAY-Z fan, and must jay fans area lways about flussing rap; you know, rapping about money and good life, and NAS is the opposite of that. So when i read the heading of the story, i was really inspired, that there was still hope for hiphop after all.

What i am trying to say wheni refer to the life of hiphop being in a better shape, by me, after i read this is because it is obvious that nas does not sell millions, and he does not have 4 maybachs or anything like that, so for FABOLOUS to give props to him, then it means people/rappers that appreciate raw talent.

Below is what fabolous had to say:

"Nas, Nas, like Nas is so ill," Fab told interviewer Karen Civil. "I think this younger generation of hip-hop really don't know, like, I got a dude who rolls with me, he's like 21, 22, he don't know any of the ill Nas, he don't know Illmatic, you just don't know that Nas that I grew up with. I wish Nas would just let these young boys know he's that dude."

Yeah, i am feeling fab on that one. With that said, i can't wait for the next NAS album.

RAP IS BACK IN THE EAST COAST.

I think in recent times that the east coast has taken, or to put it in better prospective, the east coast has predominantly the best rap albums coming out, and other than for LIL WAYNE'S movement, the southern rappers ain't selling like before.

I could remember back like 4 years ago, the south took over the dominance of the rap game from the east, and they ran with it. During that era, you had rappers like T.I blowing to full bloom, CHAMILIONAIRE, PAUL WALL, and a lot of bubble gum rappers i can't really remember their names. To show you how irrelevant their short lived music was, i can't even remember half their names.

I think the east is getting hold of the rap game right now, and it is looking good. When someone as noncommercial as JADAKISS can sell more copies than more than half the southern rappers out, then you know it is looking good. Then you have Jay-Z is still selling crazy numbers as we type. I think that is a good look at the rap game right now.
