How Did You Celebrate Christmas?

I know this blog is about rap music, but today is a special day for a lot of peopl all over the world, so i am asking you- how did you spend your christmas?

Okay, i would like to go first- today was very different from every other christmas day in my lifetime. Today, i just basically sat in my CD shop, and sold and sold and sold. My shop is next to my dad's shop where he sells top-up cards, so i also helped him out.

Generally, i used up the day to listen to a lot or CD'S i had been too busy to listen to before. I listened to just as many r&b joints as rap to. I just wanted to create a balance.

I listened to J.Cole's Friday Night Lights mixtape, and i was really impressed. I think i just became a fan. I heard the come-up once, and i don't know if it was the atmosphere, or the fact that i dont really like when an artist has so much hype before i get a chance to listen to him...but, anyway, i didn't feel the come-up, so i didn't listen to the warm up. This cd just made me realize why people compare him with nas.

Okay, that's it, the other rap albums i lsitened to are not worth speaking on, so,i would like to hear from you- what did you do for christmas?

J.Cole Talks About Meeting Nas For The First Time

The Roc Nation Artist, J.Cole talks about his first meeting with Nas. It is evident that cole is a nas fan, as he has openly disclosed in a lot of interviews. He was recently interviewed and asked about how it was meeting nas for the first time. He said he was awestruck, and also that he would like to do a full length collabo album with nas.

Below is what he had to say about that:

From his arrival in mainstream Hip Hop over the last two years, North Carolina's J. Cole has been frequently compared to emcee legend Nas. In a recent interview with Bootleg Kev, the Roc Nation hopeful candidly spoke on that discussion. "It don't even sound right to me [that I'm compared frequently to Nas], 'cause Nas is [in] another stratosphere, but there has been some dialogue," said Cole. The emcee continued, revealing a mutual affinity for each other's work, when they crossed paths. "When I met him, I tried to give him like extra props - like I tried to bow down in his presence. He kinda wouldn't let me, 'cause he's like, 'Man, I'm a fan of yours.'" Taken aback by the exchange, Cole asserts that it's unusual for the iconic 20-year veteran to respect an artist without even a single album released to date. "It's impossible for you to be a fan of mine; it's not supposed to happen like that."
Asked by Bootleg Kev about the likelihood of a collaboration, Cole said, "Man, I'd do a whole album with Nas." More than just speculation, J added, "Whenever Nas is ready, I'm ready."

The Best Rapper in Nigeria

Who is the best rapper in Nigeria? This post is going to be like a question- i am asking you all, and i would like to get your views on the topic. But, i would give my analysis of all the rappers worth mentioning.

Starting off with no order in mind, i would like to talk about Mode 9. When it comes to doing the real hip hop, real rap, no one comes close to this guy in Nigeria. But this has limited his growth, and success, because the masses don't want to know how intelligent you are with words, they just want you to make them dance. And contrary to what a lot people think, mode 9 is not really a conscious rapper- he is good with the word play, in fact you can call him a beast on the mic, but he is not a deep rapper.

For his passion alone, i can give Naeto C an A in the hip hop school. Naeto is the next rapper i am going to be talking about- i think he is brilliant on the mic. It is evident, in his rap style that he was highly influenced by American rapper, T.I. And you can say also say he has a little of Jay-Z in him. Naeto might not be heavy with the the metaphors and wordplay, but his delivery makes up for all that. He ain't super-lyrical, but he got a super-flow.

Next up is Ruggedman. This man brought real hip hop to the country, or should i say, he helped real hip hop gain the acceptance it is enjoying now. Before him, there just a lot of crappy rappers. He has enjoyed a lot of success, and if you had asked me 5 years ago who the best nigerian rapper was, i would have said ruggedman, but things have changed, there are now a lot of great rappers on the scene. He is the type of rapper that does not form up stories in his raps and does not talk a lot of bullshit. His voice is clear and you can hear every word he raps, and that is the very quality i respect in him.

M.I blew up last year, and a lot of people are giving him the position of the best rapper in Nigeria. I used to be one of them till he started doing music just to sell records. It is very evident from his recent works that he has dumbed down his raps to appeal to the masses. His debut album, "talk about it" was a huge success without going commercial, so i wonder why he had to go that route.

Terry Tha Rapman. I think this dude is the perfect blend between the streets and the clubs. This dude can make a party jam and still drop dope lines. He can appeal to the masses and still be intelligent on songs. I think with the right marketing he could rise higher up the ladder.

Okay, those are the names that are worth mentioning, and based on impact, success, and rap style, the crown still goes to m.i till someone else proves he can have a better balance. If i didn't mention any rapper, it is because they have not been relevant for a long time, or that they have deviated from rapping.

Okay, i have done my analysis, i would now like to hear from you guys- name who you think is the best and give a reason.

Rap News: Nicki Minaj Says Kanye West is Her Mentor

Nicki Minaj says Kanye West is her mentor, but i bet she would not have said that if he was not a successful artist. I am saying, if kanye was still all creative and all, and he was not selling, i bet she would not name him her mentor. I know it is all about being successful, but success is a relative term and can mean a different thing to different people- but a lot of what is going on in the hip hop game, or the music industry as a whole is just all about sucking up to the person on top, regardless of skill or talent. I am not in any way saying kanye is not skilled; in fact i think he is a super creative producer and artist, i am just saying what i am saying and i hope you get it.

Below is what Nicki had to say about kanye:
"Well I was great friends with Amber Rose when they were dating and she hadrecommended me to him for his album and finally I guess he relented [laughs]," Minaj said of meeting West, before explaining how her "Monster" verse was created. "One day I got a call from her and she said Kanye wanted me to come down to Hawaii and record for the album. He told me I could pick what I wanted to be on. I heard the beat for 'Monster.' I fell in love with it and that’s how the "Monster" verse happened."
Their partnership did not end there. When Minaj was getting closer to releasing her own album, she said she needed Kanye West to be a part of it.
"When it came to me putting my album out, I was like ‘I can’t have an album without Kanye. He has to be a part of it.' He’s become my mentor, he gives meadvice, he hits me, takes random pictures off-line and says ‘Oh this is a good picture of you.' He’s really into fashion so he’s a good person to have a well-roundedconversation with."

Well, i guess her decision is personal and it has nothing to do with my opinion.

Lil Kim And 50Cent Working on Song Together

It is very cool to know that Lil Kim and 50cent can put their differences aside and work on a song together. I can remember 50 cent dissing kim on a track off 8 mile soundtrack that also feautured eminem and obie trice. That was 2002, and then they did a track together on kim's album, label mafia, titled MAGIC STICK- That was back in 2003.

And then, fast forward to 2005,and kim is dissing 50 on her The Naked Truth album.
I just got off 50's twitter page, which is where i got the picture of 50 in the studio, and 50 is talking about working on a song for kim. I think that is great- i like when people can put their differences asides when it comes to work.

But it is funny though, because we all know how close 50 and Eminem are, and we know em was on the Romans Revenge track...hmm! I smell a rat- are we being played here?

Lecrae

Lacrae is an American Gospel Rapper; just like many other rappers, he grew up in a poor community, and rapping became a means for him to get away from the life nf the streets. His real name is Lacrae Moore, and he presently resides in Atlanta G.A. He was raised by his mother, and they moved around a lot; this gives him the versatility that is evident in his music. At some point in his early life, San Diego, Dallas, and Denver were places he called home.

He co-founded Reach Records, which he released his first album through, at the age of 25.

Real Talk, his first album, was released in 2004; although it did not debut on the billboard top 200, it debuted at number 29 on Billboard Gospel Rap category.

His second album dropped 2 years after; "After The Music Stops" dropped on august 15 august, 2006. The lead single was titled "Jesus Muzik", and the album was nominated for a Dove award.

By the time his third album dropped, he was already a household name. Rebel, his 3rd studio album charted on the Billboard 200 albums, which was a first for him. The album entered at number 60. The main single off the album, "don't waste your life", also did well on radio. The album spent two weeks at the top of the Billboard christian rap album charts. After The Music Stops

Rehab is his 4th album, which dropped on sept 28 2010. It debuted on the Billboard 200 at number 16. It Rebelsold 28,000 copies in its first week in stores, and the lead single off the album is a track titled "just like you".

There is talks of a Rehab: The Overdose, which is scheduled to drop in January of 2011.

I think anybody, regardless of faith, should get all Lacrae's collections. He is a talented rapper with a message to go with it.

Redman Weighs in on The Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj Beef

Redman recently gave his opinion on the Lil Kim Nicki Minaj Beef. All the people that have touched on this subject have been diplomatic about it; not picking a side, and i was expecting Reggie to go against that, but he just sat on the fence like the rest.

You can read what diddy, cira and keri hilson had to say on the matter here http://kaysrapzone.blogspot.com/2010/12/ciara-diddy-and-keri-hilson.html

A lot of people look at the matter from different perspectives- some have words like "lil kim disses nicki minaj" fast coming out of their mouth, forgeting that nicki dropped Roman's Revenge first. Anyway, i like the two artist, but i have always said i go with kim anyday, but it is not about me, just read what redman had to say;

"First of all, Lil Kim is my motherf*cking heart," Red said in an interview. "I don't play when it comes to her. So don't play. Nicki Minaj, I told y'all last time, [I thought] she was fire. She's letting these b*tches out here know who she is. As far as the beef on it, as far as the beef on it, to be very f*cking honest, that if Nicki Minaj didn't pay homage to Kim or even shout her out -- then I want to pinpoint what is Kim's beef. That's what I'm trying to pinpoint out. I don't think Kim came out dissing her. She came out giving her mad props I heard, mad homage. Honestly, I think Lil Kim should have just [said], 'eh, you know, you pay homage and everybody know she got my style, yo, we're gonna do a record. I'm gonna put her up under my wing. Maybe she can show me something and I can show her something.'" (Vlad TV)

Rap Albums on The Billboard Charts

Diddy and his Dirty Money crew made it as the first rap album on the billboard charts this week. I have not heard the album, but i have loved every "single" that has dropped from the album. Last Train To Paris sold 101,000 copies after one week in stores. I think the two girls (Kalenna and Dawn) off the group create a nice balance for diddy's not too good rap skills. I love how they bring that 90's feel in their music.

Nicki Minaj is holding up strong with her debut album; Pink Friday. She sold 97,000 copies this week, and she is now at a total of 658,000 copies sold so far. If you ask me, i think she is not doing badly with her sales. I follow her on twitter, and she is carrying out some aggressive campaign/promo up in there. I wish her the best.Pink Friday [Explicit]

T.I's NO MERCY album did 69,000 copies this week, and is now at a total of 229,000 copies after 2 weeks in stores. Although this is really bad compared to his past projects, you got to consider the fact that the dude is in jail, and was in jail the better part of 2009; so, he has definitely lost some listenening ears. I hope he can come out stronger and more level headed, because his career was on a rise before he went to jail last year.No Mercy (Deluxe) [Explicit] [+Video] [+Digital Booklet]

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the 5th album from Chicago rapper, Kanye West, did 66,000 copies this week, and his total sales now stand at 738,000.My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy [Explicit]

Lloyd Banks's latest effort, H.F.M.2 (The Hunger For More 2) sold 5,800 copies this week, bringing the total sales of his third album to 69,000.
 H.F.M. 2 (Hunger For More 2) [Explicit]
Sheek Louch, one-third of the Legendary rap group, L.O.X, recently dropped his 5th solo album, Donnie G, which did 5,500 copies after 7 days in stores. I think that is really low, considering the fact that he is now on a major label; Def Jam. His last album, LIFE ON D-BLOCK, which was more or less a street album, on an indie label sold exactly the same first week numbers. I am a fan of his music, and i followed through from when he dropped the first single off the album till when he dropped the album; i must say that he, or who ever is managing him was very sloppy with marketing the album. He didn't even have a video out when the album dropped. I hope def jam don't regret signing him, because he is really a great artist; but i do think the album would grow on people, and he can get down to grinding hard on better marketing and promo.

Ludacris Got Paid $100,000 For Performing at a Millionaire's Holiday Party

Ludacris got paid $100,000 for a 45minues performance at Millionare, John Hope's Holiday party; what can be cooler than that? Just about two weeks ago, a similar situation happened with rapper Rick Ross, when he got paid $100,000 just to appear at a Nigerian boy's 10 year old party- that is, Nigerian parents paid rick ross $100,000 to appear at their son's 10th birthday.http://kaysrapzone.blogspot.com/2010/12/nigerian-parents-paid-rick-ross-100000.html

You can read the full story on ludacris's fortune below;

Atlanta rapper Ludacris received quite the hefty check this week thanks to his performance at a millionaire’s holiday party. According to TMZ the rapper received an impressive $100,000 to perform a 45-minute set.
The extravagant party took place at the Arizona home of entrepreneur John Hope. Hope reportedly spent somewhere near half a million dollars on the party.
Other celebrities in attendance at the party were also paid, but did not receive nearly as much as Ludacris. Jersey Shore reality star Snooki received $17,500 while other celebrities including actor Dean Cain and Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s Bruce Jenner received anywhere from $5,000 to $12,500.
Hope, a known philanthropist, is currently pursuing endeavors in the technology and computer information systems sectors.

Good for you luda; just take that money and do something good with it.

Dj Premier Gives His List of Top 5 Dead or Alive Rappers

I have always brought you this section, where rappers name their top 5 dead or alive rapper list, and this week, Dj Premier is up. The legendary Dj that has been in the game for more than 2 decades drops his list, and you can just guess who and who made his list...or more like, you would never guess who and who made his lsit.

DJ Premier. The name alone evokes the sound of a generation of hip-hoppers in awe of the boom with the bap and the scratch. The last time we sat down with Preem, we established his Top 5 Dead or Alive Producers (click here for that), but the time for his favorite emcees has come. Here are the fortunate lyricst to be deemed in DJ Premier’s Top 5.

 GRAND MASTER MELLE MEL

"I always say Melle Mel from the Furious 5, just because he was one of the first MC’s to take it from just a party atmosphere and talk about what’s really going on in the world. And how f**ked up New York is and what they see in their hood, and you still can dance to it. To this day when “The Message” comes on you can dance to it but still the lyrics were incredible, plus he was just an ill performer. You know, you gotta remember I graduated high school in 1984. I got to see [Grand Master] Flash [DJ live]. And then Crash Crew, and even the Fab Boys, Rock Master Scott & the Dynamic Three, Nucleus, were all on the same bill. Dougie Fresh and MC Ricky D, you know, before he was Slick Rick. And UTFO was on the tour. Melle Mel, man, he’s a beast. He should be given some type of f**kin award."

"I love Kool Moe Dee, I think he’s amazing because he actually made the [rap] battle become what it is, because he took battling to such a whole different level. And he’s such a lyrical f**kin beast. So I would say Kool Moe Dee."

"I would definitely say Big Daddy Kane, because Big Daddy Kane was able to show the difference between being comical with writing for Biz Markie as a ghostwriter. He embodied Biz’s personality where when you heard Biz do the rhymes you felt like Biz wrote those rhymes cuz they were “Biz” rhymes even though Kane wrote and even through all the sounds in writing the rhyme."

 RAKIM

"Definitely, Rakim. That’s a no brainer. We all just didn’t understand how could anybody be this original and different and then he had the look with the way he dressed, the mean look on his face, and he bragged but he was so so dangerous, and still is."

KRS-ONE

"And KRS-One. Man, its always a big “fight” between Chuck D and Kool G Rap, but just as my favorites, I was just always a big time KRS-One fan. Criminal Minded just did it for me. Let me tell you, we used to study driving to Willowbrook Mall when I was in Texas going to college just to make sure I could remember the rhyme by the time I drove back home. Song poetry, its just song poetry. By the time we were driving back, I had it memorized because that’s how much I had to know KRS. Same thing with Rakim - you just had to know [the lyrics]. You had to know his lyrics because the tones, the words, and he kept making you go “Oh my god.” You know just like Kane said “I’m so full of action my name should be a verb, my voice will flow on every note, when I clear my throat that’s all she wrote.” Like how do you write that and then put the attitude right behind it too? And then Marley’s killin em with the beats? They need to change the topic to 10 Dead or Alive

I bet you probably don't know anyone on his list. Or maybe you know Rakim and Krs one, but you can't say you know their music- that is because these rappers are from the 80's.

Nas Joins HIV/AIDS Org To Serve Christmas Dinner

Nas has always been known for being conscious, and staying out of the media's eye- that is why i hardly have stories about him up in here. Thank God we have something on him today.

Read below:

Album Review: Donnie G

I have been a bit busy with school, and have not had time to listen to the new Sheek Louch album, "Donnie G", so i went in search for the review on the internet, and i came upon this lovely hiphop blog...asishiphop.blogspot.com, and ripped the review off their for you to read, pending when i write mine- do visit the blog and support real hiphop.

Below is his review of the "donnie g" album:
Donnie G: Don Gorilla

So I'm backed up on reviews but I did get to listen to the latest solo effort by the third member of The Lox, my man Sheek Louch. Now most people are busy talking about how nice Jada is or how real Styles keeps it, but I've always preferred Sheek verses to either of them.

The album begins with the "Rhyme Animal" intro and Sheek's bars are sharper than they have been in the past. See he talks that goon street rap but it is more polished than his counterpart Styles and more realistic and original than Jada. "Get it Poppin" has a simple but good beat that brings you in with the bells it incorporates. Now subject matter, he's not breaking new ground, he's got money, runs shit, and holds it down etc, but this joint could get spin in a more moderate club. Now "Club Jam" with DJ Webstar also has a simple beat that has some decent drums and generic club rap but it doesn't fit the Sheek persona as much. "Party After 2" with Jeremih is the more 'mature' club song and though you can tell Sheek is trying for specific sounds instead of stumbling onto them naturally, it isn't a bad joint.

Caseley sings the hook on "Blood and Tears" which is the required street album song about making it and being a 'success' now. "Make Some Noise" is typical Sheek and features an average feature from Fabolous. "Out of the Ghetto" is the song about what it says, but Sheek lets a little thug emotion out you could say. The hook is handled by Kobe Honeycutt. Sheek takes it down south alongside Bun B with "Ol Skool" and "Nite Falls" is normal East coast rap, both of which just seem like filler. "Ready 4 War" is the same but the singing hook works and offers up a change of pace. Grimey classic hip hop with Jada, Styles and Bully is on "Dinner Guest" and the fact it is just what you'd expect is overlooked because Sheek has to have this on his album and the song is set up to keep you interested. The album ends with "Clip Up Reloaded" with Styles P and Jada for the streets. "Picture Phone Foreplay" with Kevin Cossum is the song most unexpected even though it isn't too big of a stretch for Sheek, the idea is a little more than I expect.

Now song wise, we all know Sheek has a small box within which he is going to work and he moves around that box with ease. I prefer listening to this than anything that Jada has put out recently. The songs with his Lox brothers are all strong and he manages to throw in some new sounds and tricks to keep the album from sounding like one long song too often. The beats definately hold Sheek down and while his lyrics are never going to wow you, they are more solid than you might think.

Rating: 2.5/5     If you like what you read, then click the link below to buy the album at the best price you can get.

Nas Fans Put up a Lost Tapes2 Petition Against Def Jam

Nas fans have gone the same route that the Lupe Fiasco fans went in getting the attention of Record Label Execs at Def Jam. I don't know when LASERS (the album from lupe) would be released, but i know after about 200,000 of lupe's fans signed the petition, they agreed on a date. So, nas fans have followed through with this- the WeNeedLostTapes2 petition started off a couple of hours ago, and more than a thousand people have signed it; i was number 1093.

If you are a Nas fan, or you support real hiphop, then head over to  WeNeedLostTapes2.com

Drake Remembers His Past Internet Dorminance

If you know the story of how the now Young Money rapper got into the game, you would know that it all happened through the internet- from dropping a "mixtape that sounded like an album", to getting signed by Lil Wayne, all was through the power of the internet.

Below is his reflections on the issue:Thank Me Later [Explicit]

"Initially, I think I just didn't know what would happen," Drake recalls. "I was this rapper with a little bit of buzz, the internet was taking over, and I didn't know the power of the internet at that point. The true power of social networking and the things we are so emmersed in now. There wasn't an artist that had been 100% birthed from that outlet and I think to be discovered on MySpace, how I was found, and for it to somehow reach Wayne's ears and for him to feel so confident about it and call me and to release a mixtape on the internet again and have a record somehow go #1 off a mixtape using the internet as a tool. It was all amazing because it was all a first, I can't remember that happening in my day. Even if you think of 50 [Cent], [Kanye West], and [Young] Jeezy, I remember having hard copies of all of those tapes. I remember it being more about the radio." (Global Grind)

"So I had my #1 hit off of a mixtape which was unheard of and now, I look at Deuces, a Grammy nominated record off of a Mixtape, that was on the internet, that's happening now, consistently. It's crazy for all of that to translate to an amazing career and accolades, but it's crazy for that to reach as far as the Grammy's. I don't know how to put it any other way. It's really from 40s apartment to the internet to the Grammy awards. That's the chain of events as far as my music making. I still record at 40's apartment, I'm in Torono right now recording in his apartment. From 40's apartment to some mastering studio to the radio to the world on the internet to the Grammy Awards. It's mind-blowing. That's the journey I can explain." (Global Grind)

Paul Waul Gives 5 Reasons why You Should Buy "Politics as Usual"

Paul Wall, the rapper popularly known for customizing grillz for other rappers, just dropped his latest effort, "Politics as Usual", and he is giving you 5 reasons why you should buy it.

1. 360 Degrees Of Funk

This album is a must-have because it's not just about Houston, it's all-together great. It's Texas hip-hop but also, you're going to listen to the album and really hear some good music. There's some good features on there from people around the country. Most importantly, the music all around is good. The beats are banging, the features are top notch, and my caliber of rhymes on here are really top of the line.

2. Guess Who's Coming To Dinner

Most of all the music we recorded this year. Some of it is freestyles, some are songs I did with other people. A lot of this project is based on features I've done with other people and things that they've given me. Sometimes you end up doing a song with somebody and it doesn't come out until six months later.

3. Peek-A-Boo

You really need to hear the album because we got some good sneak peeks in here. A lot of the collaborations throughout the project are pretty much sneak-peek types of stuff. Michael Watts is the deejay who put it all together and me and him have been doing it since 1998, 1999. We have a really good feel for each other and vibe off each other well. I just let him do his thing, the way he blends songs together and his freeystyles. He requested some things from me like freestyles and I pretty much gave him a lot of music, a few songs from an album I might put out in 2011 and some of my favorites from my album Heart of a Champion which came out last July. So any kind of requests, I just gave it all to them so.

4. A Change Gon' Come

The fourth biggest reason why you need to get this is because it's the champ, Paul Wall and I'm on here doing my thing. You all are going to hear me at my all-time best. No swagging, no BS'ing. It's me at my best. I've grown a lot so you're going to hear maturity. On the project, you'll hear the growth in my material. At 19, I was rapping about having diamonds on my boogers and stuff like that; this is a bit more mature. That was like 1999, I've grown from then. This is a change for the better.

5. Swish, It's Good

model's Hair Catches Fire at Diddy's Last Train to Paris Album release Party

Diddy threw a party for his album, LAST TRAIN TO PARIS, and it almost turned out a disaster, when one of the models (miyoki jones) that were present for the party had her hair catch fire. She was in a bath tub with candles all around the place, and the hair caught the flame from on of the candles. I don't think it was a good sight.

Read more about it below:

Celebrity gossip and news site, TMZ.com, recently caught up with Miyoki Jones in NYC as she was exiting a Starbucks restaurant. The model told them about what happened, saying she was a paid model hired to do a party for the Diddy-Dirty Money "Last Train to Paris" album. She said there were a lot of candles around and all of a sudden her hair caught on fire. Miyoki said it was singer Trey Songz who told her that her hair was on fire. TMZ asked if Diddy called Miyoki and she said "he's very humble, and definitely reached out after" to make sure she was alright. Obviously Diddy doesn't want any bad publicity or even worse a lawsuit on his hands for this incident. Miyoki said all the damage to her hair is now hidden under a bun on top of her doo. She said "hopefully something good comes out of all this." If nothing else, Miyoki Jones is getting some publicity and exposure out of this whole thing. While it seems like a laughing matter, if she gets more work out of this, she'll be the one laughing all the way to the bank! (Gather)
